Media Awareness Network elects new Board of Directors
The Media Awareness Network’s (MNet) Annual General Meeting took place in Ottawa on May 29, 2008, at which time a new Board of Directors was voted in. Five new members were welcomed on board—Carolyn Wilson, President, Association of Media Literacy; Clarence Lochhead, Executive Director, Vanier Institute of the Family; Suzanne Morin, Assistant General Counsel, Regulatory Law and Policy, Bell Canada; Craig McTaggart, Director, Broadband Policy, TELUS; and Jacob Glick, Canada Policy Counsel, Google Inc. MNet extends a warm welcome to our new Board members and thank you to our returning members.

Dealing with frightening films: resources for parents
2008 is the summer of the superhero, and kids are clamoring to see the adventures of characters like Iron Man, the Incredible Hulk and especially Batman. Many of these movies, though, include images and scenes that can be frightening to younger children and even tweens and teens. Media Awareness Network has resources for parents on deciding whether a movie is appropriate for their children and helping them cope with frightening moments.
