CURRICULUM OUTCOMES: SUBJECT OVERVIEW



Atlantic Provinces: Health Education Overview  


In the New Brunswick Health Education Framework, media literacy outcomes are included under the broader categories of Personal Wellness; Protecting Yourself, Your Family and Your Community; Growth and Development; and Use, Misuse and Abuse of Materials (emphasis on Media Literacy).

In the Nova Scotia Health Education Framework, media literacy outcomes are included under the broader categories of Strategies for Healthy Living; Strategies for Positive Personal Development and Healthy Relationships; and Values and Practices for Healthy Living.

In the Prince Edward Island Health Education Framework, media literacy outcomes are included under the broader categories of Self; Safety and Emergency, Nutrition; Healthy Body; Social Relationships and Decisions About Drugs. Prince Edward Island is currently creating a new Health curriculum.

In the Newfoundland and Labrador Health Education Framework, media literacy outcomes are included under the broader categories of Personal Health; Consumer Health; Relationships; Nutrition; Drug Education; Emotional and Social Well-Being; and Safety and Environmental Health.

(Note: as many of our lessons can be adapted to suit different grade levels, specific lessons may be listed for more than one grade. Teachers should also note that individual lessons often satisfy a number of learning outcomes.)
