Site Structure - Flash Version

The Media Awareness Network (MNet) site offers five major sections: For Teachers, For Parents, Media Issues, News, and Special Initiatives. Each section has a distinct color scheme.

Within the major sections there are three different types of pages: the section index, which presents the topics to be covered within a section; the topic indexes, which give an overview of a subject, with links to related sub-topics; and the sub-topic pages.  These are in-depth essays.

The site also has a large archive of resource documents, including articles, reports, educational materials and tip sheets. You can access these resources through the links on the right sidebar of the sub-topic pages, or by using the Topic and Document Indexes in the Site Directory.  You can also access them by typing subject-relevant keywords into the Search tool at the top of each page.

In addition to publishing our own resources, MNet recommends external resources such as web sites, articles, reports etc. Links to these resources are also provided in the right sidebar of the sub-topic pages.

For a "bird's eye" view of the site, and a better sense of its structure, take a look at the Site Map in the Site Directory.

The layout of the pages evolves as you progress farther into the site.

At the top level, where information-seeking is a priority, more space is dedicated to navigation helpers like buttons and links. Deeper into the site, where reading is a priority, more of the page is given over to the display of information content in the form of text and pictures.

The home page to the right is the main portal into the site. To view pages at different levels visit the sample pages linked to below:

Section Index: For Parents

Topic Index: Movies Overview

Subtopic page: Understanding the Rating Systems for Movies

Resource Document: Canadian Home Video Ratings
